Shigeru Miyamoto Has Seemingly Shut Down Hope Of A Female Lead Main Line Zelda Game

The debate about a female Link, or a female run Legend of Zelda game has raged on for a little while now in spirited debate. It's clear at least a portion of the series' fans would like the option, while another are less thrilled about the idea.

Well, Nintendo legend Shigeru Miyamoto has waded in now, and it doesn't look great for the hopes of a female lead main series Legend of Zelda game. Speaking to Gamekult (via Nintendo Everything), while the creator did say that a spinoff game with the option is possible, "Link is the Hero and that will not change." In full, he said:

We clearly talked with the team to make a game centered about Sheik, so I cannot say it is impossible to see something of the sort in the future, but in the classic games in the series, Link is the hero and that will not change. For the rest, you have to be patient and see what happens!"

The hope here, for those who would like the option to play as a female Link, us that the moniker of Link might not be gender defined. However, what we know right now, is that it doesn't look to be incoming any time soon.
