Lee Nordling Launches A Comics Masterclass As A Book

About Comics has released Lee Nordling's new book Comics Creator Prep: A Comics Course for Writers and Artists through Amazon.com, and simultaneously on Kindle.

The publication of Comics Creator Prep follows Lee Nordling's second consecutive Eisner Award nomination this year forSheHeWe (Graphic Universe, 2015), and in 2015 for BirdCatDog (Graphic Universe, 2014), both part of Nordling's Three-Story Books series with artist Meritxell Bosch.

Comics Creator Prep offers a self-paced course for creators interested in considerably compressing a potential ten-year learning curve for the craft of sequential art storytelling. Where inspiration and spontaneity prime a comic's pump, create a vision, propel it forward, and give it life, Comics Creator Prep raises the level of comics craft to give a creator the requisite tools to consistently realize that vision. For those serious about working in comics (an ironic consideration, indeed), Comics Creator Prep shows creators how to use the tools in their comics toolboxes well.

As part of his foreword, Marv Wolfman writes, "Many books have been published in the past decade or so on writing and drawing comics. But those are mostly about the theory of writing and storytelling, talking about process and how one should think.

"Comic Creator Prep, on the other hand, gets right into the trenches and gets you working. As if you were submitting your work to a real editor. With Comics Creator Prep you gotta do the work and earn your keep. If you have the talent and put in the effort, the same kind of effort the original creators had to do to begin to learn the craft, you should get better."

Danny Fingeroth writes, in an excerpted comment, "Nordling delivers a Master Class in the creative and business issues that confront pretty much everyone who's ever tried to tell a story in words and pictures. Lee will help you avoid many common mistakes comics beginners—and grizzled pros, for that matter—often make."

Paul Levitz writes: "There's no one magic way to create comics, but Lee Nordling brings a lifetime of experience in strips, periodicals and books to a discussion of how to approach the medium as a professional and do your best work."

And Bryan Talbot writes, "I really wish I had been able to read Lee Nordling's Comics Creator Prep forty years ago when I was a newbie at this comics lark. It's stuffed full of invaluable information and useful advice about the craft of storytelling and using the medium to its full potential. I had to learn the hard way by spending years making mistakes! It covers everything from the placement of word balloons to the best way to pitch your story to potential publishers. And, what's great about it, is that it really hammers these lessons home."

Comics Creator Prep (ISBN: 978-1936404-58-2) is a 292 page 6" x 9" paperback priced at US$24.99 for the print edition. The eBook edition is priced US$9.99
