Krypton Gets An Official Pilot Order From Syfy

krypton_artVariety confirms earlier reports that Krypton, David S. Goyer’s Superman prequel series, has received a pilot order from Syfy.

The plot is said to follow Superman’s grandfather and his attempts to redeem the House of El after the family is ostracized within Kryptonian society.

The project was first announced in 2014 with Goyer, a writer on the Dark Knight trilogy and Man of Steel, involved as an executive producer. Goyer will co-write the pilot with Ian Goldberg. Colm McCarthy is set to direct. It is unclear how quickly production will get underway or if the pilot will go to series.

Both Batman and Superman have been the subjects of prequel series with an early pitch for a young Bruce Wayne series molting into The WB‘s Smallville. Fox‘s Gotham finally brought the young Bruce Wayne concept to network television.
