Variety reports the program has received a straight-to-series order at the home of Pretty Little Liars. Until late last year, Freeform was known as ABC Family.
The site describes the series as an interracial romance between two teenagers “who find themselves burdened and awakened to newly acquired superpowers while falling in love.” Framed in that way, it seems like a perfect fit for the channel.
Created by Bill Mantlo and artist Ed Hannigan, the duo of Tyrone Johnson and Tandy Bowen first appeared in 1982’s Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man #64 and have enjoyed guest appearances in the Marvel universe and their own series off-and-on ever since. As in the comics, their television counterparts will be gifted with powers of darkness and light as they try to chart a course in their corner of Marvel’s live action universe.
It is currently unclear when Cloak and Dagger will air.
