46 Thoughts About 46 Of Today's Comics – From Steven To Superman, From Injection To Jonesy

IMG_0049

And Deadpool: Mercs For Money sets off the tone nicely for this week's look at a bunch of lovely comic books. And so many to look through!

IMG_0046Ant-Man has a new role for his daughter, Stature. One for Avengers Next fans I'm thinking….

Paknadel_&_Trakhanovs_Turncoat_001_panel

Paknadel & Trakhanov's Turncoat #1 also knows all about deals with the devil. And the feeling of curling milk it can provide. May I recommend a deal with your pharmacist to follow?

3 Devils #1

While 3 Devils #1 has a peeping Tom… or would Peeping Old Nick be more appropriate?

StorytellerDragons_004_panel

But when you do deals with the devil, as Jim Henson's Storyteller: Dragons #4, it's never going to go well and something ends up going down your throat.

IMG_0055

Because sometimes there are things we don't want to do. Like play music for a bunch of Gotham criminal degenerates. That's why Black Canary is justified in knocking back half a bottle of whisky while wearing fishnets. Hey kids, it's rock and roll!

Jonesy_002_panel

Stuff is knocking something something a little more solid. Though the ingestion of mushrooms in Jonesy #2 may explain the colour scheme of this comic book.

X THOUGHTS_A&A_001

Though it can't even get Archer & Armstrong out of trouble… AA is necessary rather than A&A… but you know they've got a bad feeling about this.

IMG_0047
And Kanan #12 looks to the past for inspiration to its future in its final issue. But also comes across a really pedantic Stormtrooper..

Page 17 from Devolution03

Transformers Deviations

The Deviations series shows very different worlds. And Transformers puts Megatron on his knees. Considering all he can do is transform into a rifle while Optimus is a massive truck, I'm surprised it didnt happen a lot sooner. He's just got too many tyres to shoot out.

Ghostbusters Deviations

Talking of someone else with spare tyres, Ghostbusters Deviations continues the path of, well, making bad guys massive wimps. But come on, cool and scary as…

IMG_0059

Superman/WonderWoman #27 continues the Vandal Savage fight… and now that Wonder Woman is no longer his girlfriend it looks here as if Vandal fancies his chances with Superman instead.
X THOUGHTS_IMPERIUM_014

And your privilege while you're at it! Imperium #14 follows official procedure….

starve

While Starve gets a full checking service as this remarkable comic seems to channel Chef Spider Jerusalem in full flow.

ANINHUM2015005-int2-5-f6c2f

Okay so the Sky Spear is quite some distance behind the guy in the foreground here, so… what is the Spider-Man swinging from in All-New Inhumans? When you get "International" you often have to leave

SQDSUP2015005-int2-5-1e75c

Say, maybe that's where all the magic went in the last Doctor Strange? Sucked up into the Weirdworld and discovered in Squadron Supreme #5?

SWOMAN2015005-int2-4-1060d

From Spider-Woman #5… hang on, is this new information to anyone? Sorry, I can't put myself in a pre-baby frame of mind…

IMG_0082

That, reader, is an excuse, for Reader in Uncanny Inhumans, that might actually stand up in court. Although maybe best avoided if possible, right?

IMG_0079 Scarlet Witch has always been "no more arch enemies"… you know, I'm sure her not-Dad Magnus must count somehow.

SU_CrystalGems_001_panel

Steen Universe & The Crystal Gems gets a new #1 comic – and a snore that rather gives way the contents of a sleeping bag. Don't you know never to leave your precious gems out in the open like that?

IMG_0071

Well, I suppose he is a Doctor. Funny, you never saw Doctor Strange use his powers in this fashion as Doctor Fate does, and he's a fully trained master surgeon.
Lumberjanes_024_panel

Is it just me or is that lightning in Lumberjanes #24 trying to say something? If I stare at it long enough, like the sailboat, maybe I'll get to see it.

IMG_0053 It's all about family in Martian Manhunter, those that have been and gone and provide inspiration….

X THOUGHTS_WRATH OF THE ETERNAL WARRIOR_005 (1)

Something a certain fellow in Wrath Of The Eternal Warrior might empathise with. Just you know, with a lot more running through mud.

IMG_0069

And who suddenly turn up again without warning in Action Comics #50…. remde in Vandal Savage's image as atheists. Possibly. IMG_0057 And in Robin, Son Of Batman, though this particular mother has a different approach to parenthood entirely….

IMG_0056And someone who might share common ground with a certain Mother in Batman And Robin: Eternal. Man, there are a lot of motherly psychological issues on the pages of today's comic books, aren't there?

Eighth Seal #4

Or , in Eighth Seal #4, any psychological problems you've got, really. Plenty to go round.

IMG_0054

Poison Ivy has kids of her own now (though not through anything as icky as heterosexual penetrative sex of course), and so naturally chooses Audrey Two to be their natural babysitter. What could possibly go wrong?
IMG_0052

Green Arrow #50 is hilariously obsessed with blood this month. The power within certain blood to heal and the responsibilities there within get overburdened with vampires, witches and zombieness.

IMG_0050Especially when they have other bodily fluids in mind as well. But that is nothing, nothing compared to the hilarity of Superman's own blood lust.

IMG_0051

From The Coming of The Supermen #2 – is this Superman or Yoda? Also watch for a scene where Superman forgets to use his X-Ray vision…

IMG_0080Man, that's what happens when you live off mung bean casserole and lentil quiche, perfecting your body like a temple, in Power Man & Iron Fist….

huck

Okay, now I'm going to live in fear of my kitchen utensils. Thanks Huck. I dunno, I think a sentient toaster would do a lot to prevent such a thing. I know I'd be burned. Anyway see if you can see how Huck escapes the cage a mile away like everyone else…

Wynonna Earp #2

In the old days, no one made pop culture observations, Then they did. Then they kept doing it and people criticised them. Now people do it and the characters criticise them. What's next? Wynonna Earp #2 stakes out that territory.

injection

Injection has the real Doctor Who and the real James Bond face off… as well as Declan Shalvey throwing in sight gags for Father Ted. Basically if you're not British, step off…

Page 6 from Bond005 While Warren Ellis, writer for Injection and James Bond: VARGR knows when to shut up himself.

Starfleet Academy #4

Did you know, back in the Star Trek TV series, it was Spock who was meant to kiss Uhura in the TV series, but William Shatner caught the actors practising the scene and wouldn't have any of it, getting the show rewritten. A chance the new films – and comics like Starfleet Academy #4 have had to set things straight…

13atf001_xthoughtsThe talent hunt-winning 13th Artifact #1, with has all the grave ambience two young hotshots, Amit Chauhan and Eli Powell... and it looks as if they have plenty to hide.

sy004_xthoughts

It's a wonderful, wonderful life, in Symmetry #4, the conclusion to the first arc – and stuff is getting ALL spooky robot utopia.

Page 4 from RSVol3-03Red Sonja is, indeed all about the talk, it seems. And, large chainmail or not, you know his eyes are finding ways around it…

Clandestino 2 panelClandestino #2 .just brings it on. A one man army corps. This is what a middle finger looks like in combat form.
Page 8 from GrumpyPokey02Grumpy Cat And Pokey do their best Cyrano de Bergerac. And yes, this is a real comic book being published today. But I get the feeling that Grumpy is pushing for Felines With Benefits…
Page 13 from Spirit09The Spirit has a really impractical noticeboard. Someone definitely needs to consider what it's actually for, these diegetic letters sitting there for days and days getting in the way of modern office working practices.
Page 21 from LSotJ01Save the monkey! Save the world! In Jungle Girl!
