Skybound Director Of Business Development Sells His Personal Copy Of The Walking Dead #1 (UPDATE)

s-l1600 (2)

Shawn Kirkham is no relation to Robert Kirkman. They are both men of a certain age, girth and facial hair and can both be found at Skybound Entertainment, publisher of The Walking Dead. However they are not brothers and their surnames are actually different.

But Shawn has been a fan from before he joined the crew. He bought his copy of The Walking Dead #1 from Hi Di Ho Comics in Santa Monica on the day of its release, Oct 8th, 2003, and got his buddy Robert Kirkman to sign it.

And now, slabbed by CGC in 9.6 condition, he is selling it on eBay. Why?

This is my personal copy of TWD #1. I purchased this on the day of release in 2003. Little did I know this book would be a catalyst for some of the biggest moments of my career and life.

In the few years that I've been working in comics, I've become close friends with Shawn Caffrey and his family. I love them like they were my own family. Bob is a great man and I'm tearing up as I write this. Bob was recently diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM), the most aggressive form of brain cancer. He's currently in hospice care. This auction will hopefully help their family with some of the medical bills.

The donation to the family will be the full ebay bid. I'll make up the difference personally.
