A Bounty Hunter-Based Comic Con In Banbury At The End Of The Month

12366121_450099265177757_2331853479069386590_oWe know about the big comic book conventions, the San Diegos, the NYCCs, the London Super Cons… but what about the smaller ones? As Sheldon says, they're still pretty good…

Geek Con Banbury 2016 is the first such show, and the first comic convention in Oxfordshire since Caption left for sunnier climes.

Held at Castle Quay Shopping Centre in Banbury, it runs on Saturday, January 30th, and its big claim to fame is that it will have all the actors who played the original bounty hunters in Star Wars…

Geek Con Banbury 2016 brings together a classic con full of Q&A, signings, cosplay, gaming, showings and screenings, early releases and special appearances together with added features like illusionists, body art, magicians, circus and contortion, steam punk, a science fair and demonstrations, gadgets, technology, fantasy battles, stunt displays, behind the scenes workshops and much more.

At Geek Con indulge your inner geek with comics, graphic art, directors, illustration, animation, film, actors, stunt people, writers, traders and lots of great guests from our favourite fantasy, sci-fi, gothic and horror publications and media.

During the daytime at Geek Con, we present a multi-venue programme including outdoor processional and performances from Stormtroopers, martial artists, stunt displays, the Knights and Fights, re-enactment, and indoor science demos, art-in-action, local hot street food, and we'll be giving the public chances to jump in, with things like zombie, cartooning, science and illustration

We have an exclusive showcase film screening, of APOCALYPSE, including a zombie parade, and a Q & A session with APOCALYPSE's director, which was shot on location with local zombies in Banbury Town Centre in 2014.

The evening event showcases a come-in-costume Cosplay Competition event, featuring full bar, food and live music, console gaming, cartoon workshops and special large-scale, multi person, interactive group games.

Geek Con's primary venue and main sponsor is Castle Quay, with special signings and back catalogue at Special Project Partner, Comic Connections throughout the day followed by a full evening programme for 18 + at Also Known As.

Our exclusive film screening location will be announced in January!

Throughout Geek Con we pay homage to some of the greatest parts of the mythological, sci-fi/fantasy, comic universes and celebrate science, art and the things we can all agree to geek out about, from the latest Star wars release to new advances in cutting edge technology.

Speaking of Star Wars, we have a major line up for everyone that's absolutely extra special: all FIVE of the original bounty hunters will be amongst our very special guests for Geek Con, with exclusive meet and greet, and photo and signing sessions.

There are a range of competitions, special offers, prizes and discounts, all throughout the campaign leading up to Geek Con and also during the event. We have a science fair, an illustrators and artists exhibition and many chances for local people to showcase their skills, share their passions and have fun getting involved with Geek Con.

Local artists, illustrators and con specialists Hayley Fidler, Tim Cherry –Jones, Patrick Currier, Joshua Andrews, Daniel Cronin and a small number of other special steering group members have been brought on board behind the scenes alongside special project partners Banbury Comic Connections and the Banbury Presents event team, all working together to help to bring Geek Con to life this January.

My parents live in Banbury which is an even better reason for me to visit. Are you going? Going to any show?
