As Entertainment Weekly continues to reveal info from its upcoming cover story on Marvel‘s Doctor Strange, they confirm that actor Mads Mikkelsen will play the chief antagonist in the film.
Of course, the name of that villain is still a mystery.
When Mikkelsen was first rumored to appear in the film, many suggested he may end up playing Dormammu. But executive producer Stephen Broussard told EW that “no one has quite picked the name that we’ve chosen for him. It would be fun to conceal that, if we can.” The character is described as a sorcerer who broke off into his own sect, believing some of the mystical horrors held at bay by the Ancient One should be released on to the world.
Does that description ring any bells?
UPDATE: In a subsequent EW post, Broussard offered up details about Rachel McAdams’s role, but also withheld her character’s name. He described her as “a fellow surgeon that has a history with Strange and is his sort of lynchpin to his old life, once he steps into he role of a sorcerer” and said she will help him anchor his humanity after becoming a sorcerer.
The new issue of EW, featuring the Doctor Strange cover story arrives on newsstands on Tuesday.
