ViewComics – Where Pirated Comics Push For A Better Reading Experience

viewcomic

So there's this website called ViewComic. It is a repository for recent pirated comic books. But rather than providing a selection of download links, you view the comic as a series of stacked jpegs, right on the page. See a comic, click a comic, read a comic, in high definition. It is scarily easy and has the kind of user interface you wish some of the legit digital comic services had.

The only problem – apart from ethical ones – is that each page is watermarked. Well, you wouldn't want anyone to steal it would you?

They say,

Starting in April last year, ViewComic has grown and grown, so for many it is their first place of call on a Wednesday. Indeed they get quite annoyed when a comic hasn't been put on the site. Increased traffic as let to server issues, so they have begun a donation drive.

With the increasing in the fees of keeping this service available, we have made it possible for users to donate. This website has been built and supported by all users. It is a free site so contributing is completely voluntary. All donated money will be used to pay for Domain/Server bills, the Internet connection, and other fees that apply directly to run the site. All donations are highly appreciated.

Currently, website viewcomic.com has more than 50 bots over the world. Whenever you request new comics, they will surely be added on the site as soon as possible.

They take donations via PayPal to viewcomiconline@gmail.com. That's right, people will pay to read comics illegally rather than pay to read them legally, if it suits their experience more.

Not that this will be much comfort to those who rely on the income that comic books provide with each and every legal sale.

ViewComic is not alone. Comicastle provides a similar service. But it's slower, it's less graphically intuitive and you have to turn the pages slightly slower. It's not quite ViewComic.

In an ideal world, digital publishers would hire the ViewComic people and make their own services much better. But this is not an ideal world, which is why there are lawyers…
