Mad Max: Fury Road Named Best Film By National Board Of Review

fury-road-tom-hardyAward season draws near and an unexpected challenger has hit the ground running: Mad Max: Fury Road. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the National Board of Review has named the film the best of 2015. Of course, it remains to be seen if this will allow the actioner to receive serious consideration come Oscar time.

One can only hope the film will ride historic as genre pictures rarely get nominations outside the technical achievement categories. Notable exceptions include Star Wars’ 1977 Best Picture, Director and Supporting Actor nominations, Sigourney Weaver‘s Best Actress nomination for Aliens in 1986 and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King‘s 2003 sweep which included Best Picture

Other 2015 National Board of Review honors went to The Martian, with Ridley Scott, Drew Goddard and Matt Damon named as Best Director, Writer and Actor, respectively. Quentin Tarantino‘s upcoming The Hateful Eight also received several awards, as did Sylvester Stallone, who won the Best Supporting Actor nod for Creed.
