For those looking for the last few Force Awakens morsels of detail to go into the theaters with on December 18th, Empire offers a few more with its new issue. Star Wars News (via Slashfilm) has compiled a handful of the nuggets, including director J.J. Abrams‘ cinematic influences, his choice to go back to the rougher lightsaber fights of the original trilogy and introducing the notion of a “force back.”
But of particularly interest is Andy Serkis‘ assertion that Supreme Leader Snoke is the new phantom menace. “I will say this one spoiler-y thing: he was critical in the seduction of Ren to the dark side,” said the actor. “He is a hugely important part of the story and will continue to be.” Take that as you will.
Mark Hamill, Simon Pegg, Adam Driver, Harrison Ford and more also get there say … but some of the quotes look awfully familiar at this point. Although, this exchange between Empire’s interviewer and Harrison Ford might be worth the price of the magazine:
Will you be back for Episode VIII?
You can’t ask that question
Do you mean you can’t answer it?
No. You can’t ask it. We’ve already established that we both thnk[sic] it’s bst[sic] to allow the audience to experience the story rather than be told about it in advance. It doesn’t serve the audience for me to answr[sic] direct questions about outcomes.
Which should put the final word on Star Wars: The Force Awakens pre-release press … but we’ll surely see some more before the film is finally released in a couple of weeks. The new issue of Empire is on newsstands now.
