In what Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn declares is his last statement on rumors about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 until after its premiere, the director debunked today’s earlier rumor about the identity of Peter Quill’s father.
“The rumors surrounding Quill’s parentage at the present moment are completely false, and aren’t even close to the truth,” he posted on Facebook. “I don’t know how people come up with this stuff, but it certainly isn’t through legitimate sources.”
He also decried the trend of trying to learn about a film’s plot, writing “Is this really what fandom wants to know? Plot details in movies ahead of time? I got in this business because I love movies, and I think most film journalists are the same way.” A completely legitimate response to the fascination with film spoilers.
The director signed off stating he would no longer respond to rumors because someone might actually stumble on something that is true, but also noted, “we’re creating a film that doesn’t rely on plot twists to be an enjoyable experience. They’re only a very small part of what we’re cooking up for you.”
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 arrives in theaters on May 5th, 2017.
