While talking with IGN, Jessica Jones showrunner Melissa Rosenberg revealed in an earlier version of the show intended to air on ABC, Jessica’s best friend was Carol Danvers. As she explained, “Between then and when it ended up on Netflix, you know, the MCU shifted, and it also shifted away from the universe in the [comic] book.”
The initial version of the show more closely resembled the universe of Marvel Comics, with superpowers more out in the open than on the eventual Netflix series. “There was a lot that I had to move away from, just in terms of sheer plot, and Carol Danvers got her own movie,” Rosenberg explained.
“But as it turned out, Patsy Walker [Rachael Taylor] ended up being an incredibly—a much more appropriate fit with Jessica,” she continued. “It was better that her best friend was not someone with powers. It actually ends up being a really great mirror for her.”
The series is available in its entirety on Netflix.
