Neil Gaiman Talked Sandman Overture Last Night – And Received A Special Birthday Song From His Wife

Last night, Neil Gaiman and DC Comics did their thing with a Sandman Overture live conversation with for an hour and a half with Neil and Junot Díaz, presented by Jim Lee. You can watch the whole thing here.

He talks about being a new dad, and looking back over 29 years of Sandman. And approaching Overture as not wanting it to be "the thing I did that made the other thing less" as he had seen other sequels do. And how he had real fear of death on a plane, carrying Dave McKean's artwork originals for Black Orchid and with three issues of Sandman written but not published – a week later the same flight would go down over Lockerbie.

He also received a special present from DC Comics for his birthday today, as well as a surprise birthday song from his wife Amanda Palmer – playing Metallica's Enter Sandman on the ukele and the kazoo… one hour twenty minutes in for that quite remarkable audio and visual treat.
