Alterna Comics Also Locked Out Of Free Comic Book Day 2016 Due To Price Point

12118829_1160513460644725_8140186836838735152_nThis morning, Bleeding Cool broke the story that 2000AD had been rejected from 2016's Free Comic Book Day despite having a lineup of new original material that included Eric Powell, Joelle Jones, Laura Allred and Mike Allred. The story was soon confirmed.

We then told you that ComixTribe felt they had to withdraw their original content title for FCBD as they weren't allowed to go over the 20 cent per copy maximum charge as they had in previous years.

Since then another publisher has spoken out. Peter Semeti of Alterna Comics has posted,

Alterna Comics' 10 Year Anniversary blank variant was set at 25 cents and was also kicked out for the same reason. would've been the first sketch cover/blank cover offered at FCBD. Also would've highlighted 10 years of a smaller indie pub. Alterna had 3 books in FCBD since 2009, all had order numbers between 25k to 40k. we were the first pub to offer an FCBD graphic novel sized title in 2009. 72 pages at 40 cents to retailers. We took a 2K hit.we were willing to take another 2K hit this year to get the book out there as the actual cost was 35 cents a book. a smaller number of retailers support books outside the top 5 pubs as everyone else usually comprises of 12%-15% marketshare. so it's obvious that they don't want to support these books on FCBD as well.

More tales of woe to come…

Diamond has not responded to enquiries made yesterday, while members of the FCBD committee have stated that they are waiting to hear from Diamond over what the final line-up will be.
