The Hellfire Club in the X-Men was based on an episode of The Avengers back in the day, A Touch Of Brimstone, featuring an organisation of the same name.

NewMutants27CoverRestoredOverlaySo it feels apt that Hellfire is one of two live-action TV shows being made by 20th Century Fox based on the X-Men titles, along with Legion.

Legion is based on the character of Professor Xavier's son David Haller, and has had a pilot order written/executive produced by Fargo's Noah Hawley. The character is classically a multiple personality disorder, each personality having a different mutant power. Created by Chris Claremont and Bill Sienkiewicz, he was recently given a new lease of interest in X-Factor by Si Spurrier.

While Fox will have Hellfire, by Evan Katz, Manny Coto, Patrick McKay and JD Payne, based on the Hellfire Club created by Chris Claremont and John Byrne.

While Hellfire will be a period piece from the sixties, will see a special agent investigating a powered up society of millionaires planning to take over the world, but will differ from the organisation seen in the X-Men: First Class movie.

The press release says all sorts of lovely things about Marvel working with Fox,  but there is little actual sign of any if that. And there are no quotes from Marvel personnel. But it's good to know all the paperwork has been signed off.
