The Women And Men Of Bleeding Cool At New York Comic Con 2015

New York Comic Con starts in three days. I fly in two. I really should pack… but here are the good folk of Bleeding Cool waiting for me. Do say hello to them if you are at the show.

HMSEIC at Bleeding Cool, Hannah Means-Shannon has survived until her 3rd NYCC for Bleeding Cool, but will she survive her 3rd NYCC? The convention convinced her to pursue a career in pop culture through its sheer madness and the madness it inspired in others. Somehow she doubts this year will lose the faith. Find her hosting one Bleeding Cool panel, covering many others by Liveblog and generally seeking the Holy Grail of doing more than seems possible in one convention. She holds the keys to the free t-shirts, so if you see her, brag about how many years you've been reading Bleeding Cool to increase the odds of becoming a walking billboard.

bleedRich Johnston is Head Writer of Bleeding Cool, and has been reporting on comics online for 23 years this year, longer than anyone else in the world. He has been known to write the odd comic book as well, and has also found himself Britain's most read political cartoonist. You can find him on one Bleeding Cool panel in the middle of Saturday. If you see him, say hi. He promises not to lick. Find him on @richjohnston and richjohnston@gmail.com

IMG_20150909_190109Ale Bodden (Like Alex, but without the 'x') is a freelance artist and aspiring writer still waiting for her letter from Hogwarts. In the meantime she likes to explore the Geekverse on her golden unicorn with a good book in hand by day, fight evil by moonlight, and watch anime on weekends. Her natural habitat is the Artist Alley, where you can find her roaming and breathing in the beautiful art.

unnamed (6)Joe Glass is by now a veteran of Bleeding Cool's comic con reporting, along with being a comics creator in his own right for The Pride, about a team of LGBTQ superheroes, and co-writer of Stiffs, about a monkey and his chums who hunt the undead in the Welsh valleys (lot of them about, see). He'll be juggling his time between covering LGBTQ interest panels and more for BC and actually being on a panel and signings. But if you see his chubby, beardy face, feel free to say hello! You can follow Joe on twitter @josephglass and keep up to date on his comics and events schedule at facebook.com/ThePrideComic & facebook.com/StiffsComic.

IMG_1055Bleeding Cool Staff Writer, Christine Marie is pumped to be attending her second NYCC this year. Armed with her MacBook and thousands of cups of coffee, Christine plans on covering lots of exciting events, and saying something to Scott Snyder besides, "Permanent Marker!" If you see Christine amongst the crowds be sure to say hello and chat with her about creative things. You can also follow her on Twitter and Instagram @AWritersWay.

Ray FlookRay Flook has served as a contributing writer for Bleeding Cool since NYCC 2013; and has covered a diverse selection of events in the past, including: San Diego Comic Con; Special Edition: NYC; BookExpo America/BookCon; Waku Waku +NYC; Doctor Who Eighth Season Word Tour; and many others. He continues working to grow Old Man Geek, a website/social media platform aimed at bridging gaps between generations of "geekdom;" being a resource for passionate-yet-respectful debate on important issues in pop culture and within the geek community; and fighting for the right to artistic expression, no matter how uncomfortable that art can make us feel. You can follow him on Twitter (@oldmangeek88), Instagram (@oldmangeek) and at the website (www.oldmangeek88.com).

imageAmanda Gurall is an artist and a freelance writer (until the blue box shows up) who raises two young kids in NYC with her husband, fellow Bleeding Cool writer Rich Epstein (also attending). She has a background in and a passion for film and TV especially if space, swords or sloths are involved.

My name is Kirk Staley, and I am a deaf reporter for Bleeding Cool, but I can hear very well, as in 90% of the dialogue. This will be my 3rd New York Comic Con! My favorite TV Shows are Agents of SHIELD, Sleepy Hollow, Limitless, Quantico, Arrow, and The Flash. In my free time, I enjoy swimming every day(still do), and I like reading fanfiction, and I do play computer games(Star Trek Online). Here's my Twitter. @kauthor

IMG_20151004_195806 (1)By day Derek Trum serves the public as a mild mannered manager for an office supply store. On the weekends he transforms to an unmasked crusader of comic book culture. His mission is to avenge the death of his parents…wait no that's Batman. His mission is to help spread his love for comics to the masses. Over the last couple years he has found an ally in Bleeding Cool to help in his crusade. For the past ten years Derek has been attending comic book conventions around the New England area. For over a year now he has gone from attendee to contributor for Bleeding Cool. Raised in a house where Kirby was King, and Stan was the Man, Derek serves to expose the uninitiated to the industry he loves. Also just to be clear his parents were not killed nor does he have any proper training to be Batman.

IMG_2514Anthony Hammock is a social work supervisor by day and at night runs the comic book website www.comicsheatingup.net. He is marking his second year covering NYCC for bleeding cool and has contributed coverage to other conventions including Baltimore comic Con.

Madeline Ricchiuto is a playwright and freelance writer. This will be her third year covering New York ComicCon for Bleeding Cool. You'll find her running between panels or hunting down cheap trades.  Follow her on Twitter @StaggerBlind.

me_miniChuck Brouillette is an artist/writer from Saratoga Springs, NY. He is best known online for his daily Twitter reviews of most mainstream Marvel & DC Comics. (52 X 2 X 12 annually!?!) And if you are a comic writer, artist or editor working in the industry over the past 15 years, you may have received one of his art/comment cards that he creates and posts (via US mail!) each week, featuring images of his digital illustrations (Comic Mash-Up) and polymer clay sculptures (It Sprung From Clay!) cheering, critiquing and commenting on the creators and creations of the industry that inspires his art. (i.e. a modern day Ray Johnson of the Comic Industry) Chuck has worked as a Product Developer/Copywriter & Art Gallery Operations Manager for Warner Bros Consumer Products, developing DC Comics related merchandise for WBSS Galleries. He also conceived and produced the Saratoga Springs Comic Con, bringing comic fandom fun to his home town crowd of upstate New York. His artwork was also included in last year's Image Duplicator art exhibit at Orbital Comics Gallery in London. Chuck writes and reviews with a keen eye toward (fantasy-relative) logic & structure, observant of the societal Pop Culture & cross-platform impact the characters & mythos have had on Big Media (TV/movies/gaming) in more recent years, and with an overall love & respect for the industry.

unnamed (8)Jon Johnson is a native New Englander with a penchant for speaking his mind. When not podcasting, writing or sampling new beverages, he can be found playing games at various places around the country.

Adi Tantimedh has written radio plays and television scripts for the BBC and screenplays for various Hollywood companies, as well as graphic novels for DC Comics, Moonstone Books and Big Head Press on top of his weekly column "Look! It Moves!", about pop culture for Bleeding Cool.

nik-350x340Nikolai Fomich is a Philadelphia-based writer. He loves comics, literature, film, history, and travel, and takes moderate pleasure in linguistics, martial arts, and describing himself in the third-person. Feel free to say hello to him at New York Comic Con, where both he and his hat will be attending. Follow him on @brokenquiver

12108263_10207223239314391_1245978369075765364_nDimitrios Haritos is a newcomer to Bleeding Cool. He is a founding member of the Long Island Ghostbusters where he donates his time to charities and helping his community. Dimitrios is also a cosplayer who dresses up as many Marvel and DC characters from Cyclops to Superman. He has been reading and collecting comics for well over 20 years and has amassed a big collection of comics that go as far back as the 1950s. With a supportive wife who puts up with his madness of all things Geek culture and two boys that he is pulling into the world of Nerdom, Dimitrios is ready to take NYCC by storm!

BIMG_5059rian Goldberg is the Senior Toys and Collectibles Correspondent for Bleeding Cool, writing about all things geek in the world of collectibles and merchandise. He's frequently to be found prying into exclusive mysteries at conventions. If you would like to speak Geek with Brian, please email him at your.dog@gmail.com.

Other attendees include Adam Wolfe, Alejandra Bodden, Christine Stephan, Daniel Celko, Endy Mageto, Jemal Flores, Jeremy Konrad, Michael Curran, Octavio Karbank, Patrick Dane, Patrick Willems, Paul Gullas, Sofia Annunziata, June Vigants, Chris Miskiewicz and Christa Cassano.

And then of course there's you. Whether you are attending the show, or watching from home, if you see something cool or noteworthy go down, get in touch. I'm on richjohnston@gmail.com. And maybe next year you could be going to the show for Bleeding Cool yourself…
