Appearing on USA Today is “Welcome To Super Hero” a short from the forthcoming DC Super Hero Girls initiative. The line will feature “books, graphic novels, digital content, apparel and animation” aimed at the girls 6-12 market. Take a look at the short:
Okay, Professor Grodd is almost as inspired as Bookworm showing up as the librarian in Gotham Academy. Nope, it’s slightly better because Grodd in tweed is a great image.
DC’s chief creative officer Geoff Johns tells USA Today, “I don’t think anyone can argue against the fact that we have the best female superheroes and characters in all of comics.” The initiative acknowledges the changing face of several markets and Johns calls it “a huge statement and opportunity.”
“It’s fun for all of us to be involved in something that’s going to play into the girl-power aspect of what kids and parents are looking for,” said DC Entertainment president Diane Nelson.
Adapting the characters to different markets makes sense overall and more people falling love with the characters can only be good. It’ll be interesting to see how the initiative grows over the next while and what it can add to DC.
