"A long time ago, in a basement not far from Detroit…

11208347_1591423757764818_15411709_nIt is a dark time for the rebel army. The evil empire has tightened its grip and has silenced the rebels' voice. In an effort to strengthen their cause, the rebels sent out thousands of bottles across the galaxy. But the Imperials troops are hot on their trail. The revolution begins today. Help us B. Nektar fans…you're our only hope.

May the Pours. B. With you."

I have to give B. Nektar Meadery credit for that bottle blurb. As a longtime Star Wars fan, I always appreciate a good homage and spoof and their Episode 13: B. Nektar Strikes Back certainly has that down. The artwork is excellent as well, consisting of an AT-AT walker made out of oak wood, the body itself a giant barrel. As for the mead itself, aged in bourbon barrels, let's get onto that.

Episode 13 was a pale golden yellow, not unlike a white wine. It produced no head, only some sparse bubbles and there was no carbonation to be seen. It gave off a mixed scent of sweet berries and honey, as well as some dark fruit. To be perfectly honest, it smelled a bit medicinal, likely from the bourbon barrel aging.

Unfortunately, the smell was reciprocated in the flavor. I was disappointed to find this really tasted like rubbing alcohol partially. There were some nice touches of honey and crisp, white fruit, but I do not think the barrel aging landed itself to this beverage. It was smooth on my palate, but there was a good amount of burn to it.

Episode 13 was, but not in the way I like. I did not feel the flavors gelled together for me and it was generally not pleasant to drink.

What to Drink This To:

star-wars-wallpaper-12With a bottle like that, you can't sip on this anything but Star Wars. But that doesn't mean just the Star Wars films. The space runs the gamete of media, touching on everything from videogames to board games to toys and Internet media. Just this morning, I spent about 30 minutes just perusing through old Star Wars fan films, which are quite honestly some of my favorite homages and spoofs. Check out the classic Troops and pseudo spin-off, the Empire Recruitment Video.

Oh, and I heard a rumor about a seventh film coming out later this, but I don't know if there's any weight to that.
