Marvel Introduces Red Widow – Black Widow's New Superhero Partner?

The Mary Sue has been handed news from Marvel PR that a new character is to debut in the Marvel Universe in the upcoming Mockingbird: S.H.I.E.L.D. 50th Anniversary #1 out on 2nd September from Margaret Stohl. From the solicitation,

Plus! A special bonus story by superstar young adult author, Margaret Stohl (Beautiful Creatures), writer for the upcoming YA novel, Black Widow: Forever Red!

That novel, to be published in October prominently features the character.

Ava Orlova is just trying to fit in as an average Brooklyn teenager, but her life has been anything but average.The daughter of a missing Russian quantum physicist, Ava was once subjected to a series of ruthless military experiments-until she was rescued by Black Widow and placed under S.H.I.E.L.D. protection. Ava has always longed to reconnect with her mysterious savior, but Black Widow isn't really the big sister type.

Until now.

But this comic will beat it to the shelves. TMS quote her as describing the character

The Red Widow is a powerful new female superhero for the Marvel universe.
