Florida Comics Experience Downsizes From Civic Center To A Comic Shop

FCE-Website-LogoThis hasn't happened to San Diego. Yet.

The website for this year's third annual Florida Comics Experience, a one day comic con event, announced big changes for the show, taking place this weekend on August 8th. The organisers wrote,

At the end of last year, we began to work with the Eau Gallie Arts District (EGAD) to infuse some "culture" into our pop culture event. The civic center we rented is in the district (next to an Art Museum) and walking distance to a number of small shops and galleries. The blending made perfect sense to all of us… or so we thought. Complications (a norm in event development) became full obstacles at the beginning of June. Over the past two weeks, we've hit a roadblock in terms to cooperating with the management of the Arts District to the point that it has negatively impacted our event.

So where are they going?

We're going to move that focus more heavily onto our supporters from the other end of town: the Famous Faces & Funnies comic book store.

You may recall Bleeding Cool coverage of that store, earlier this year, when a car was driven into the store, destroying much of it.

Well, the store is re-opening and the show will be its grand re-opening. The store will be twice it's previous size, but for the show, that is still a bit of a downsize. They will still host their costume competition, their gaming and more, but no additional vendors will be at the store and the celebrity guests will not be attending.

The event will be free, all tickets have been refunded and those with tickets who attend will also be given a discount code to WasabiCon: Year 4, in Jacksonville, which may also have the guests who would have been at Florida Comics Experience.
