Darin Henry's New Comic Company Advertises During Big Bang Theory

BlueBaron_DIGITAL-1Darin Henry, is a TV writer/producer who has worked on hit sitcoms on both sides of the Atlantic. Some like Seinfeld, Futurama and Grosse Pointe, and some like My Family, Not Going Out and Muppets Tonight. His current series, a spy family sitcom called KC Undercover for the Disney Channel.

And, because this is Bleeding Cool, he also write the Big Finish Doctor Who audio, The Game.

We've just had Comic Con week, he's launching a new comic book publisher, called Sitcomics. Which he describes as attempting to be "a creative pipeline, providing new and established comedy writers a way to get their fun, high-concept ideas in front of a paying audience" with the tagline "It's TV You Read".

Maybe I should send him Holed Up…

Anyway, on the Monday after Comic-Con, the comics will go on sale and TV ads will start appearing during Big Bang Theory repeats in Central Pennsylvania, as places across the state selling the title, that he self-distributes to, from State College to Reading, including coffee shops and pizza shops . But you get to see the ad in question right now.

It's called a regional roll-out. Add to that upcoming appearances on local talk show and ABC affiliate Good Day PA, an extended interview on the local Public Radio affiliate's call-in show and a 6 city signing tour of Central Pennsylvania comic shops where he'll be signing copies of both first issues alongside artists Ron Frenz and Jeff Shultz and colorist Glenn Whitmore and it sounds like something that might well be keeping an eye on.

Wed.  July 15th
11:30-1:30 – Comic Store East – Lancaster, PA
3:30-5:30 – Comic Store West – York, PA
6:30-8:30 – Comics and Paperbacks Plus – Palmyra, PA
Thursday July 16th
4:30-6:30 – Comix Connection – Mechanicsburg, PA

As they say, if you can make it there, you can make it anywhere, Pennsylvania…

The comic formats also harken back to a golden age as they are 64 pages long with nearly 60 pages of story for $5.99. Considering most comics are now around 20 pages for $3.99 (and don't ask about the 16 page Ultimate End #3 last week), that's the equivalent of $1.99 a standard comic, and allows for a greater complexity of story in each issue.

According to an article I just read on your wonderful website, the week after Comic-con has a bit of a lull and very few #1 issues are being released that week.  I'd be very grateful if you'd consider letting Sitcomics fill that information vacuum by giving international exposure to my TV commercial as well as my attempts to break new ground with my 64 page ongoing comic books.  Plus both titles will also be released digitally (DRM-Free) on Comixology starting July 15th, so your readers will have at least one way to acquire the books, even if they don't live in Central Pennsylvania.

Next up, pizza you listen to and coffee you finger paint with… here's a preview.
