But since then, we’ve had no idea what he will be working on in the future, aside from the relatively low profile All-New Hawkeye.
Well, I understand from gossip following Special Edition: NYC last weekend, that he will be the lead writer on Marvel’s X-Men comic books, whatever they will be, after the Secret Wars event comes to an end.
Lemire came to prominence writing and drawing the Essex County graphic novels for Top Shelf Productions, followed by DC Vertigo’s Sweet Tooth. He was tapped by DC to help launch the New 52 with Animal Man and Frankenstein before taking over Justice League Dark and launching Justice League United. He was also picked by Valiant working with Matt Kindt to write The Valiant and now Bloodshot Reborn, ahead of the Bloodshot movie.
He co-wrote the Futures End series for DC and the All-New Hawkeye series for Marvel, that coincided with his Marvel exclusive contract. He co-wrote the Futures End series for DC and the All-New Hawkeye series for Marvel, that coincided with his Marvel exclusive contract.
He will take over the books from Brian Bendis, who has been the lead writer since 2012 and who introduced the All-New X-Men, gave us the Last Will And Testament of Charles Xavier and outed the young Iceman. His final issue, Uncanny X-Men #600 was delayed five months until October.
Whether Lemire will be pursuing the planned plot in which the X-Men and the mutants leave Earth for Jupiter’s moon Europa, after the expanding Terrigen mists that trigger the Inhumans turn toxic to mutants, I don’t know. That originated with X-Men editor Mike Marts who recently quit the publisher and is now EIC of AfterShock Comics, with Mark Paniccia taking over the titles.
But it would be a rather effective way of getting the X-books away from stories of continuity involving Marvel Studios characters for a while.
While Jeff Lemire hasn’t written the X-Men before, he has written and drawn books that look as if they might fit in well…
