We've seen more and more visual effect companies releasing videos showing how they work. Here we have one of the best, Weta, showing us the VFX for The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies

The adventures of Bilbo Baggins and the company of dwarves comes to a climatic conclusion when they are faced with the devastating consequences of having unleashed the dragon Smaug, and reclaiming the Lonely Mountain. They are soon embroiled in an epic battle as five great armies go to war.

The scope and diversity of visual effects work in the final film of the Hobbit trilogy was astounding. The integrated fx simulations produced for the destruction of Lake-town and new virtual stage tools developed to bring the epic CG battle sequences to life are notable highlights.
