Things Fall Into Place In Gotham Academy #5

GalleryComics_1920x1080_20150204_GOTHAC_Cv5_54937670438e37.47261041Everything is falling into place with Gotham Academy #5 from DC Comics, written by Becky Cloonan and Brenden Fletcher, with art by Karl Kerschl. After four intense issues of this brilliant new series, the puzzle pieces are fitting together nicely. Readers have endured a lot of mysterious moments, unsure of where this story was going to go, but the discoveries Olive makes in issue #5 make the journey worth the wait. When we left off with issue #4, Olive encountered Croc, who knew her mother in Arkham. This issue centers on Olive's determination to find out more information from this giant character.

It's going to be difficult to talk about the events that happen throughout the issue, because there are so many pivotal moments that I don't want to spoil. However, I will talk about one part. At the center of it all, is a dance, which Olive and her friends attend, but only for a short while. Cloonan and Fletcher bring attention back to Olive's past relationship with Kyle. Their interactions in this issue bring focus to Olive's feelings on the past and if she's really healed from it. Reading her inner dialogue is always a highlight for me. I admire her determination to continue moving forward even though it's incredibly difficult, but I am much more intrigued with the event that takes place between her and Tristan towards the end of the issue. Prepare yourself for a surprising intriguing moment!

As always, these characters are a highly entertaining group, and their bond of friendship continues to grow as the plot progresses. Cloonan and Fletcher show how determined they are to stick behind one another and work together to help Olive. Kerschl's draws some deep, dark, spooky scenes in this issue, and as always makes Gotham Academy visually appealing. The style is very reminiscent of Babs Tarr's style in the New Era Batgirl, so I often wonder if we can look forward to a crossover sometime. After all of the knowledge we gain and discoveries we make in this issue, I feel very enthusiastic about the future of Gotham Academy. It amazes me how much the characters have grown, and the events that have taken place over the course of five issues. After the cliffhanger at the end Gotham Academy #5, I'll be impatiently waiting for the next issue to release.
