The Past And Present Of Catman In Secret Six #2

GalleryComics_1920x1080_20150114_SSIX_Cv2_5490954daf2e92.08800067It feels like way too much time has passed since the release of Secret Six #1, so I was so happy to get my hands on Secret Six #2 this week, from DC Comics, written by Gail Simone, with art by Ken Lashley and Drew Garaci. The mystery continues as to why Catman, Porcelain, Ventriloquist, Big Shot, Strix, and Black Alice are trapped in an underwater box. Time becomes an issue as the mysterious voice demands that they choose one person to be eliminated for not answering the question, "What is the secret?" What follows is an action packed sequence of events. This group of individuals must decide whether they are going to stick together, or do what the voice says.

IMG_8732We alternate between an experience in Catman's past and the present day. It becomes clear as to why he feels so strongly about being trapped in one place after the trauma that he has suffered through already. As always, Simone's script flows smoothly and grabs your attention more and more with every turn of the page. Her dialogue is flawless. I am fascinated by Ventriloquist's character and particularly enjoyed the scene between her and Catman in this issue. Her little sidekick is very entertaining and adds a bit of comic relief to the script. I hope to learn more about her as time goes on. Lashley and Garaci's art is beautifully drawn. I love the way some of the scenes look blurred and dreamy, almost in a watercolor type fashion. They are very good at conveying emotion on these characters' faces. Throughout the issue, you really get a sense of unity forming between the Six and I expect that to grow stronger as the story progresses. If you haven't had a chance to pick up the New 52 version of this book, don't wait a moment longer. Pick up issues #1 and #2 of Secret Six today!
