Apple Developers Took In $10 Billion On The App Store Last Year

The mobile market is obviously a pretty big deal right now. I understand that's kind of a redundant statement at this stage though. It's like saying, "this internet thing is really going to take off." The App Store is playing an ever important part in the world of technology and especially in games. Be it Threes, Minecraft or even Flappy Birds, Apple's platform is opening up the world of gaming to a lot of demographics that otherwise wouldn't sit down at a console to get their interactive fix.

But do you know exactly how big the market is? In numbers posted by Apple today, it turns out that it's pretty darn huge. The company announced that the App Store made over $10 billion for developers in 2014. That is $10 billion. With a B! That is bigger than some countries GDP.

The company added that $25 billion has been spent on apps since the App Store started, so 2014 accounted for nearly 40% of its total revenue in just the last 12 months.

Apple also announced that over half a billion has already been made in 2015 and we are less than two weeks in.

Generally, I do think that the mobile market is a mess, with some games viciously designed to take money from their players. It also has a lot of clones of  already popular, making the store even more cluttered. That said, I think it would be hard to deny the power of the market based on these kinds of numbers.
