Comic Colorist Struggles To Get His Truck Repaired

MasonAs a freelancer that works in the comic industry, you are often times scrambling to find work so you can cover your bills and provide for your family. If you are lucky you make a little bit more than what you have to put out each month. And if one thing unexpected goes wrong it can be catastrophic. A lot of families are in this situation both in and out of the comic industry… its a rough time in the world and with the holidays coming, it gets even worse.

Tom Mason has been a freelance colorist for more than a decade having worked from Marvel, Image and Zenescope. He colored the Jim Starlin cover on the left there. For well over a year his truck has been broken down. He started up a GoFundMe page to try and get some help. Here is what he said:

In August of last year my truck broke down and it's still not fixed and i could use some help. I work from home coloring comic books and for the last 8 months i've spent everything i have on trying to fix my truck to no avail and have had to rely on friends to get to places like getting groceries… it also means that neither me nor my daughter are able to get new jobs because we have no way of getting there. Needless to say that spending everything i have on the truck has also put me behind on other things and it's been very difficult trying to catch everything up.  Any help is greatly appreciated :)

His campaign is not going too well…he's at 10% of his goal after 8 months and reached out to me on Facebook in hopes of giving it a boost. Trying to exist without a vehicle may be possible in a city like New York… but its next to impossible in Blytheville, Arkansas.
