The Mortal Instruments Being Developed For TV By Helix Showrunner

It didn't have much luck on the big screen, so maybe it will work better on television. Cassandra Clare's YA fantasy franchise The Mortal Instruments is being developed as a TV series by Helix showrunner Ed Decter.

Constantin Films who produced the film The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones and who controls the franchise abandoned plans for a feature film series when the first movie took in only $31 million domestically.

"It actually makes sense to do (the novels) as a TV series," Constantin film and TV head Martin Moszkowicz told THR. "There was so much from the book that we had to leave out of the Mortal Instruments film. In the series we'll be able to go deeper and explore this world in greater detail and depth."

This is part of the German-based companies move into English-language television. A move that may also include two other properties Perfume: The Story of a Murder and the Resident Evil franchise. Other than the Resident Evil movies, Constantin forays into film have not gone well. Besides The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, the company has had poor results from it's other features Pompeii and the 3D animated Tarzan.
