The Dead Presidents, To The Best Of My Ability

The Dead Presidents  "…to the Best of My Ability", an Original Graphic Novel written and created by Kevin Garcia, illustrated by Jeremy Massie. Project ends on October 25, 2014. Publishing date: January 2015

A cosmic-powered Hitler has returned from the After-Life and it's up to The Dead Presidents (TDP) to stop him and save humanity, but they're divided and untested with super-powers. The one that can unite them and lead them is none another than George Washington but he isn't one of those rushing back to Earth as he's living it up in the After-Life with the Rat Pack.

Kevin Garcia writes,

My fellow citizens,

TDP smashes my love of comic book super-heroes and presidential history together. My name's Kevin Garcia and I've been reading comic books regularly since 1991. My longest job ever is a combined 7 years behind a comic book shop's counter. Six consecutive years with CRUSH Comics & Cards in my hometown of Castro Valley in the Great State of California during my high school and early college years and then later my seventh year was split between CRUSH and CornerStoreComics in Anaheim back in 2011 after a move to Orange County as I pursue my screenwriting career.

I quit my secure teaching job to follow my American dream. After four years of teaching high school social studies, I went off to film school at the New York Film Academy…in Los Angeles, or rather Universal City, and studied screenwriting. So I think in terms of television and film and TDP started off as an animated series for a mature audience. There are way too many pointless presidential pfacts rolling around in my head next to my comic book knowledge. After my graduate advisor suggested combining these two interests, the rest is dead presidential history. I adapted my pilot into a graphic novel.

While I know plenty about comic books, where to find an artist wasn't one of them. I needed someone that could bring TDP to life and meet my vision. After posting ads on various sites, hundreds submitted and I narrowed it down to two choices with two different looks. One provided a look that went against my vision but I liked and the other I knew was perfect from the first image I saw by Jeremy Massie.

Jeremy hails from the Commonwealth of Virginia where he lives with his wife and young children. He's the creator behind the graphic novel All My Ghosts.

TDP "…to the Best of My Ability" tells the inaugural unconstitutional adventure of the divided and untested dead politicians turned super-beings. With a large cast of 38 dead presidents, the story focuses on a George Washington that has grown uninterested in the affairs of Earth. As George puts it: "Back on earth my name is associated with corruption, greed, gridlock, dysfunction and somehow un-American. It's just wrong."

While Thomas Jefferson comes up with the idea to take on Hitler using the same cosmic-based power source and knowing George is uninterested, the group quarrels over who should lead even though they've never tried being super-heroes before. After Abraham Lincoln and Franklin Roosevelt try to persuade their old friend Georgie to join their cause, they lead a team of nine and do a pretty awesome job of kicking Hitler's ass.

That villainous and incomprehensible Hitler has back-up that ensures his plans of turning Earth into the Fourth Reich, a Nazi paradise. Now some of George's closest friends are in danger just as Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack arrive at the After-Life's White House to pick-up Georgie for another night out at some exotic swinging locale.

This election year the only thing presidential about it is dead. Help re-elect The Dead Presidents to super-power!!!
