The Gaming Top 10: Microsoft Buys Mojang For 2.5 Billion And trailers For Silent Hills, Assassin's Creed, Final Fantasy XV And More

I hope you like trailers, because we got tons. This is a mixture of the Tokyo Game Show happening throughout this week in tandem with the build up to the hugely crowded Q4 period. We got trailers for assassin's, aliens, guys in leather jackets, a big creepy hand. It has been a busy week on that front.

However, there was also the small case of a $2.5 Billion aquisition…

Microsoft Buy Minecraft For $2.5 Billion, Notch And Key Personnel Leave Mojang

There is a story this week that really dominated and it is no secret as to why. Microsoft have acquired the infinitely popular Minecraft and Mojang Studios for a staggering $2.5 Billion. That is $2.5 Billion!

It probably isn't an unfair summation either. Minecraft (and its merchandising) isn't going anywhere soon and interestingly, Microsoft have said they aren't pulling the game from any platforms. This means that there will now be a Microsoft produced game on PlayStation and Apple products.

In reaction to the aqusistion Minecraft, creator Notch and other key heads of the game have left Mojang. The popular Markus 'Notch' Persson explained his reasons for leaving in a blog post saying sees himself as a programmer rather than a CEO and asked fans to realise that, "It's not about the money. It's about my sanity."

Final Fantasy XV Gets A New Trailer And Personnel Change

One of the most talked about things coming out of the Tokyo Game Show has to be the trailer for the ludicrously long awaited Final Fantasy XV. Seriously, it has been 8 years since this thing was announced. It is clearly drawing closer though, which will be a relief to the rabid Final Fantasy fanbase.

The game is also going through a management change with director Tetsuya Nomura going to focus on Kingdom Hearts 3, while Final Fantasy Type-0 director Hajime Tabata is stepping into see the game through on the final leg.

The trailer features a bunch of young adulty types dressed in black leather jackets, enjoying a ride in a convertible juxtaposed by lots of mystical fantasy stuff going on around them. So pretty much exactly what you'd expect from a modern Final Fantasy game.

Silent Hills Trailer Brings The Spooky

Also coming out of TGS, a concept trailer was shown for the Hideo Kojima and Guillermo Del Toro joint project, Silent Hills. Judging by the trailer, the dream team up are delivering on the creep, even if I'm not 100% sure that the trailer at has the Silent Hill vibe.

We will see once we know more…which could be a long, long way off.

Metal Gear Solid V Gets A New Trailer Centred Around Silent Assassin Quiet

Speaking of Hideo Kojima, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain got a new trailer at TGS featuring Quiet, the seemingly silent and egregiously dressed assassin. Her ridiculous attire aside, she has potential to be something interesting so hopefully there will be a little more to her than the silent assassin cliché.

A little follow up on last week too, that Metal Gear Solid Collection 2014 was a new line of clothes. This rightly has some MGS fans in mass disappointment who wanted a brand new collection of games. You won't convince me that Kojima didn't know what he was doing from the start though.

Assassin's Creed Unity Shows Off Co-op In New Trailer

Here is a new trailer for Assassin's Creed Unity, showcasing the games co-op functionality. It has the franchise signature stabbing, assassinating and jumping on rooftops, only now just with more people.

The jury is still out on how this will play and if adding your friends into situations based on stealth will be a nightmare, but if done right, this could be a lot of fun.

Also, how did no one notice these Assassins? One of them is wearing a bright green coat. Madness.

Alien: Isolation Trailers Show Some Of The Ways Your Going To Die

Alien: Isolation is nearly upon us and to market the game, Creative Assembly are showing off a bunch of ways you're likely going to die in the game.

These two are the latest in a series of short trailers keeping in line with the horror-centric premise of the game. Lets just hope the team can deliver on that promise. It has been a while since the Xenomorph had a win and it's be great for it to end that bad streak with Isolation.

Bloodborne Gets A Release Date And Trailer

From Software's Bloodborne has been given a Febrary 6th 2015 release date. This means the PlayStation 4 exclusive joins a really crowded February that gets busier and busier with every passing week.

The game also got a new trailer at TGS showing off some of the its online aspects, as well as a bunch of beautifully horrific monsters that the studio has become known for.

Gearbox's Battleborn Preview Shows First Look At Gameplay

We didn't much know what Gearbox Software's Battleborn was going to play like outside of it being described as an 'FPS MOBA', but this preview from IGN shows that the game might have a fair bit more to it than that.

The preview shows off the strengths of a selection of characters as well as the distinct art style that Gearbox have gone for. The game is also said to contain quite a bit of humour.

This could actually be something quite unique, but at the moment, I just don't know enough. I'm going to remain a skeptical for the time being.

Interstellar Gets A Video Game…As An App

I'm sure you've caught the trailer for Christopher Nolan's Interstellar which features Matthew Mcconaughey being launched into space in order to save the planet. To generate excitement for the films fast approaching November 7th release date, a game has been made available on mobile devices or right here.

It's pretty odd too, It first tasks you with creating your own solar system to share. Once you create yours, you're going to fly around other people's created systems picking up fuel and scanning planets. There is some more too it, but you should go check it out if you want to kill a little time.

Super Smash Brothers Sells 1 Million Units In Opening Japanese Weekend

The 3DS version of Super Smash Brothers came out in Japan last week and Nintendo have revealed that over its first weekend the game sold 1 Million copies in the territory. That is a ton of units, but perhaps not so surprising given it's a, if not, the flagship game for Japan's best selling console. The 3DS version is set to be released October 3rd in the west.

It's worth noting that it's unlikely the game will see quite the same enthusiasm for the Wii U launch later this year as, generally, Japan favours handheld devices to console gaming. Still, the all star brawller will no doubt be a huge boost for the flagging Wii U console.

Destiny Is Now Officially The Best Selling New IP Of All Time

Destiny has become the top selling top selling new IP ever after generating $325 Million directly from consumers. This eclipses the previous record holder Watch Dogs from earlier this year, with the new franchise doing staggering numbers despite some lukewarm reviews.

Those reviews could end up costing Bungie too due to a contract stipulation. As pointed out by Kotaku via a public document, Activision put a "Quality Bonus" in a contract with Bungie worth $2.5 Million if the game recieved over a 90 on gamerankings.com. This seems like a strange stipulation, but it does cement the idea of a growing culture in development that is driven by Metacritic like scores.

Judging by these sales figures though, I don't think anyone involved is going to be left wanting for too much mind.
