Man Sentenced To 33 Months For Video Piracy Thanks To Dating Site

130313Sometimes people just don't think things through.

Rich sent this link over to me from the BBC News about Philip Danks (25) who was sentenced by a judge in Wolverhampton for illegally filming (from the back of a theater) and uploading the movie Fast And The Furious 6. The movie was then downloaded 700,000 times resulting in the loss of "millions of pounds" according to the Federation Against Copyright Theft (FACT).

Also sentenced to 120 hours of community service was Michael Bell, who was dating Danks' sister and assisted in the uploading of the video.

The judge in the case said that Danks' behavior was "bold, arrogant and cocksure".

What the judge was talking about was the Danks used his Facebook page to offer to sell copies of the movie. But even worse, he used the name TheCod3r on a well-known pirated movie site… the exact same name he uses on the Plenty Of Fish dating website… which is how the police were able to find him.

And to save you time from having to go find it…. here is the profile.
