Sam Raimi and Neil Druckman Announce Movie For Last Of Us

By Jaselle Martinho

Evil Dead's creator, Sam Raimi teams up with Neil Druckmann writer and creative director of the Horror game Last of Us to make it into a movie. This official announcement came this morning at Hall H where Raimi also received the Ink Pod award for his contributions to the comic over the years. The 2013 action-adventure horror game follows a young woman, Ellie, as she navigates a post-apocalyptic United States plagued by sickness and "infected" cannibals.

So who's rumoured to be cast? While Druckmann and Raimi maintained that the casting process haven't begun yet they did tease of having a meeting with Game of Throne's Maisie Williams to play Ellie.

Druckmann also noted during the Last of Us panel that his team at Naughty Dog only agreed to do the movie when Screen Gems told them that they could have final say on the director and casting. "It's kind of on us not to make it suck." So Druckmann is scripting the movie himself, condensing the 15-hour game into a two-hour movie, which he says that this means laser-focusing on the relationship between Joel and Ellie.
