Grindhouse Zombie Comic Mashup!

TEMPLATE PAGE SET UP.indd

Gilbert Deltres writes,

In a world ravaged by an unknown virus which only infects males, mankind's last hope lies in a genetically enhanced soldier.

The inspiration behind Under The Flesh stems from my hardcore love of zombies, and the refusal to let the genre fizzle away. I know there's more mileage left in the undead tank. I've been entranced by zombie movies like the Living Dead films since I was a kid. The transfixion grew in my late teens with the advent of survival horror video games like, Resident Evil, and then continued into adulthood through the nostalgia of comic books!

Fueled by my love of comics and passion for storytelling, I knew I could bring something fresh to the zombie genre while paying homage at the same time. From there I teamed up with a great artist, J.L. Giles, who's been digging zombies since Michael Jackson's Thriller, and thus, Under The Flesh, was born.

The premise to Under The Flesh is simple. It's a Grindhouse mashup of Captain America, Y:The Last Man, and The Walking Dead. It features an unknown virus which only infects males, degenerating them into savage cannibals. So although they're not zombies outright, they still have a taste for flesh in many primal ways. Oh, and there's a specific reasoning behind the male-only virus, one that's integral to the development of the story.

It's been two months since Desolation Day, when an unknown male-specific virus ravaged the world, degenerating men into savage cannibals called "fleshers." Ruben Lobos, is a short-tempered, genetically enhanced soldier, who's clueless about his abilities since the pathogen struck at the same time of his experiment. He's interestingly surrounded by a diverse cast of strong female characters in a dying world where women outlast men.His group survives inside the walls of an abandoned college library, building a false sense of security that's about to crumble. Exploring his transhuman abilities comes at the price of protecting others, including the love of his life, Dinah. Is there any time for an insanely jealous girlfriend as the world collapses? Ruben needs to start making sense of things quick before the lives of those closest to him fall victim to the cannibal havoc ravaging the world.

Under The Flesh is a 100% creator-owned independent comic. We don't receive any financial help from advertising or publishers. It's an unconditional labor of love, blood, sweat, and tears. My dream is to share this work of passion with all of you. Truth is, I have very limited financial resources to keep UTF going at its current level of quality and consistency. Hence, the crowdfunding approach via Kickstarter!

Our rewards range from two physical copies of UTF (2 variant covers), Bronze Age Retro 80's art, original prints from guest artists, hand-drawn sketches, flesher likenesses for backers, backer business ads featured as abandoned buildings, and even becoming immortalized in UTF as a recurring character. We are also throwing in two extra bonus pages exclusive to the first issue, which won't be found on our webcomic site at undertheflesh.com.

With already 68 backers, we're about halfway to reaching our small reasonable goal. If we get 75 backers by Saturday, July 18th, we're throwing in a surprise reward for all those $5 + pledges.

With your help, Under The Flesh is possible.

Walk the ravaged road with us…
