Michael Rooker Let Some Spoilers Slip On Yondu's Connection To Peter Quill

In an interview with USA Today, former The Walking Dead actor Michael Rooker talked about his role as Yondu in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy movie. Since there are spoilers in the interview, let me put up our handy-dandy spoiler graphic.

Seriously… Rooker let's quite a bit out of the bag here. You've been warned.

There. Now that's out of the way.

YonduNewIn the interview we learn that the role of Yondu was written specifically by director James Gunn for Rooker. The relationship between Yondu and Starlord (Chris Pratt) starts after a young Peter Quill suffers a tragedy. He is then taken off world by the blue-skinned alien who becomes a surrogate father figure to the boy.

Yondu raises Peter along side the Ravagers, the outer-space equivalent to a biker gang and they conspire together to steal a powerful orb (most likely the one in the trailer). But Quill ends up stealing it on his own and spends the movie trying to keep it away from both Yondu and Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace).

Rooker says his character has some issues: "Not a good guy, not a bad guy. There's hope and there's a heart inside Yondu,"

Gunn says about Rooker: "He's very good at playing hard-asses you also feel something for."

Though Yondu was a founding member of the Guardians back in 1969, this is definitely Gunn's take on the character as evidenced by the much shorter mohawk and lack of loincloth. But he will have his whistle controlled arrow from the comics.

Side note… in the image above, Yondu is wearing the same patch that we see as part of the Guardians promotional material. It will be interesting to see what that means.
