Though nobody comes out and says it straight, for Fox to buy the rights to James Wan‘s Malignant Man comics now, they must have had some talk with the director about him possibly directing.
Assuming it wasn’t all just a tease, perhaps this is what he’ll move onto after The Fast and Furious 7. Perhaps his inevitable return to horror will take a little longer than I expected.
I’ve not read Malignant Man but Deadline describe it like this:
Malignant Man focuses on Alan Gates, a cancer patient with a terminal diagnosis who is resigned to his fate until he discovers that his tumor is actually a mysterious parasite. Granted a second lease on life and incredible, otherworldly powers, Alan must fight against an evil army buried beneath society’s skin, all the while unlocking the secrets of his forgotten past.
Well, that’s loaded with some touchy metaphors. At least it’s loaded with metaphors.
If Wan does decide to get Malignant (which sounds just like the name of a horror film he’d direct) then I’d expect we’ve got a good chance of seeing it in 2016.
