Magician heist actioner Now You See Me was one of those great surprises that became a sleeper hit for Summit Entertainment, so of course a sequel has been in the works for quite some time. With original director Louis Leterrier not returning, The Wrap now reports John M. Chu is poised to be the guy who takes over for him.
Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher, Dave Franco and Mark Ruffalo are all expected to return to reprise their roles. The original film saw Ruffalo lead a team of FBI agents against the other 4, who called themselves the Four Horsemen, magicians who staged elaborate shows in order to steal money from the rich and unscrupulous to give back to the poor. The film ended with a twist, so it’s unclear what sort of plot the sequel will have.
The entertaining watchability of the first film traded largely on its relentless pacing, so Chu certainly seems like someone who could keep that up.
