James MacAvoy Speaks Out On 3D Films – And Scottish Independence

james

James MacAvoy appeared on BBC's Sunday morning politics and culture show, The Andrew Marr Show, to promote X-Men: Days Of Future Past.

With X-Men First Class, he was rather dismissing of 3D films – and now Days Of Future Past is one. He said,

Thank God this movie is not in 3D, which is just an excuse to charge an extra ten bucks at the theatre. Then in the end, they're not 3D at all. The idea of things coming out of the screen and making you jump out your seat are done very well, but I think it's a waste of time and money and I wouldn't pay for a ticket to go to one of those films.

But now? He was a little more conciliatory, especially regarding his own film. First talking about First Class,

I was really pleased that it wasn't in 3D. Because it makes it cheaper for people to see it for a start.

Am I convinced about 3D? Probably not. But I've seen a couple of features when I thought, oh I'm glad that was 3D and I definitely feel that way with Days OF Future Past

Quite often I find after the first five minutes you stop noticing that it's 3D for a start.

It bumps the money up and bumps the DVD price up and I think it's a con a lot of the time.

But not Days Of Future Past

James MacAvoy was not drawn one side or the other on Scottish Referendum, having an issue with actors being used by politicians to win an argument, with both professionally trained to lie, describding actors such as himself as "untrustworthy people".

But he did state he believed the political argument was redundant, as the people who would promise better things won't be there in five or ten years and policies will change. And that independence shouldn't be whether you believe you'll be better off, it's just the same promises that are always made by politicians.

However it's arguable that MacAvoy is pro-unionist by reading between the lines

Whatever way my country votes I'll be so happy to support it, even if it goes against what I want, but I hope my country votes because its what it truly wants it wants, not just because a politician is telling them things are going to be better… why is it going to be right this time?

If you want independence, go for it, but go for it because you look yourself in the mirror and it's really important that for you to be separate from the person down the road.

If you want to be together then go for it, but go for it, because you believe in being together and the world being bigger instead of than smaller.

Brits will be able to view the whole show soon in the iPlayer website.
