It’s been weeks (maybe even months?) of internet rumblings and rumors, but now Variety seem confident that it is indeed Roberto Orci who will be taking the director’s chair for Star Trek 3.
The trade reports that Orci, who had already been on scripting duties on the threequel along with J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, had been lobbying for the director job for quite some time, and now Paramount and Skydance have given him the nod.
Orci is a superstar producer and writer in the big blockbuster property circles, having contributed to everything from The Amazing Spider-Man and Transformers franchises to Cowboys and Aliens and being linked to the upcoming Van Helsing reboot, but Star Trek 3 will mark his directorial debut.
Diving right into the deep end here.
