Though Sony are selling The Amazing Spider-man 2 with a Shazam promotion that promises a glimpse into the Sinister future, as they put it, maybe the line up for Drew Goddard’s Sinister Six isn’t quite set yet.
That’s as per The Wrap, anyhow. They’re saying that the villains could change because the script isn’t finished yet.
It sounds like some kind of spin from inside Sony but to what end, I can’t even guess. Anyway, the script will be far from finished at the time Goddard does lock in his line up. It’s not the sort of thing he can wing. “Oh, I’ll just retrofit this whole thing so that Hypno Hustler is in it, have breakfast then drive it over to Amy Pascal’s place by the lake.”
Perhaps the most interesting thing in the Wrap report is the prospect of filming starting before too long, maybe as soon as January.
This would suggest that Sinister Six has a good chance of getting into cinemas before The Amazing Spider-Man 3. That makes sense, narratively. It just seems better for them to romp around in their own film and then Spider-Man come along and lay down the law, rather than vice versa.
In the meantime, Drew Goddard will be showrunning Marvel’s Daredevil Netflix series. This is expect to shoot over the Summer and Autumn of this year. This could all click into place.
