Dan Slott Finds A Path Between Stan Lee And Steve Ditko To Conclude Superior Spider-Man

Superior Spider-Man #31 is out today. The final issue of Superior Spider-Man before the Amazing Spider-Man relaunch. And all things come to an end. Or a beginning.

There are many references to all sorts of Spider-Man stories and eras through this comic. Spider-Man fan old and new should find much to love. Including the reveal of the Goblin King. Because, yes, you will discover exactly who he or she is.

It is also reminiscent of the original sixties reveal of the Green Goblin, way back when. Famously, Steve Ditko wanted it to be a nobody, someone we'd never heard of. Well that wouldn't suit the more commercial Stan Lee who wanted a reveal of a person who would mean something to the reader. And so Norman Osborn it was.

This time however, from Superior Spider-Man #31…

I can honestly say, the answer wasn't what I was expecting it had even considered. But it took me right back to that disagreement between Stan and Steve, something I think will have been very intentional.

It's also reminiscent of John Byrne's rewriting of the origin of Doctor Doom to take into account both Stan Lee and Jack Kirby's preferred visions for the face behind the mask.

But I think folk are going to like this one even more.
