Back in 2013, Bleeding Cool reported the news, from a restricted panel at New York Comic Con that it was announced that Simone Bianchi was doing a new Spider-Man 2099 series for Marvel Comics. And later that he may be accompanied by co-creator of the character, Peter David.

No one else reported it. Peter David denied that he was involved.

But today Newsarama have reported it exclusively (some how), with artwork.

David says the new series will start with someone attempting to “remove Miguel violently” from this timeline. After that O’Hara will be pursuing the dealers behind Spider Slayers being sold to foreign countries, as well as delving into the just announced “Spider-Verse” event this fall. But there is a broader overarching story, according to David, dealing with Liz Allen and Miguel’s grandfather, Tiberius Stone.

Peter David posts,

The news is officially out on Newsarama so I can tell you guys now: Yes, I will be writing the new Spider-Man 2099 comic. When word of this first circulated weeks ago, I really did NOT know I’d be on board. Marvel only contacted me two weeks ago about it.

The first issue ships in July. Be sure to be there.

It’s drawn by Will Sliney (not Simone Bianchi though he is doing the cover) and will begin in July. And here’s some of the art.
