The Glory Of Dan Slott's Beard And The Big Spider-Man Story For Autumn 2014 (UPDATE: Audio)

"I hate to ruin superior Spider-Man 30 and 31 for you, but you know Peter Parker's coming back, right?" – Dan Slott

SPOILERS!

Dan Slott is no stranger to London, he studied here in his youth. We are, however, a stranger to his new hirsute look. He took to the stage at London Super Comic Con, to talk about the issues writing Doc Ock as Spider-Man, and how fans would freak out when Spider-Man would do something that Spider-Man would never do, like shoot someone in the face. And then they'd freak out when Spider-Man would do something he would do, like kiss Mary Jane Watson on the cover. And yes, of course it worked,

He also talked about how the original Peter Parker ghost was created as an answer to editorial concerns that Parker would not be in The Superior Spider-Man. But once that was set, Dan asked how long it would be until he could kill the issue and editor in chief told him about nine issues. So Dan scheduled that in….

We'll have full audio soon and a report from Bleeding Cool's Tom Huxley, but I just thought you might enjoy the spoilers… Though Dan Slott told us quite specifically he wasn't talking about Scarlet Spider and Morales…

He told us how a returning Peter Parker would have missed out on a year's worth of stuff, and is catching up on his missed media. So expect a Spider-Man in issue three with a thumb drive full of stuff, singing along to songs that were all sick of now. Katy Perry's Roar and What Does The Fox say are contenders…

Do you have any suggestions?

He also talked of his love of the Silver Surfer and the opportunity, rarely taken, to push the Surfer to discover new things in the Marvel Universe. And comparing a new human companion for the Surfer to Doctor Who, and also Rick Jones…

And how for the second issue we are to look forward to The Never Queen, apparently the minute you find out what she is in the grand step of the Marvel Universe "you'll be like, oh that's kind of cool, why haven't we met her before? Because the universe is big…"

When Dan Slott returns from the UK he'll be working on the big Spider-Man storyline coming in the fall, and explained that it originally an arc in Superior Spider-Man.

However, at the writers' summit, Slott was told that by EIC Axel Alonso that it was not going in Superior, because it was a Peter Parker story. Joe Quesada said it could be one of the best Spider-Man stories Marvel are going to tell and that it needs to be Peter Parker. Slott rankled against not being able to do this story with SpOck but then Fraction, Bendis and Waid said the same. So he decided to go with it, plugging in the Venom story into Superior… and apparently Amazing Spider-Man will blow us away instead.

Hopefully, up to the standard of that glorious silver beard.
