As a comic, Sandman was written by a sometime book critic who had been head hunted by Penthouse magazine and counted a Duran Duran bio amongst his credits. Now, as Deadline report, it’s being rewritten into a movie by Jack Thorne, screenwriter of Skins and the TV version of This Is England.
Such are human biases, I’ve already seen a lot of head-scratching going on across Twitter and the like. Maybe they’d be salved if people remembered that Thorne also wrote BBC Three’s The Fades and adapted Let The Right One In for the stage.
Thorne has already adapted some Gaiman, working on an incoming screen version The Ocean at the End of the Lane for Joe Wright. I’m guessing Thorne has got a real affinity for Gaiman’s work, if not even a good relationship with the writer. Most importantly, he can certainly write.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt is attached to direct and expected to star. David Goyer is one of the producers and apparently pitched this particular take on the material to Warner Bros.
