The connection between Mean Moms and Mean Girls goes beyond the titles. This new film is to be based upon the stiflingly titled book Queen Bee Moms and King Pin Dads: Dealing With the Parents, Teachers, Coaches, and Counselors Who Can Make — or Break — Your Child's Future. It was written by Rosalind Wiseman, who also penned Queen Bees and Wannabes, which provided the basis for Mean Girls.
Other than that, there's no formal connection between the two film's content. I bet there's a lot of similarity in the eventual marketing, though.
According to The Wrap, New Line haven't officially given Mean Moms the nod just yet but if Jennifer Aniston takes their offer of a lead role, it's expected that the film will push forward quickly.
It's worth noting that Mean Moms is going to be aimed at adult moms just ten years after Mean Girls was, ostensibly, aimed at teens. I'm guessing some of the audience will have crossed over in that decade – Mean Girls always did play pretty well to twenty somethings – and for those that haven't morphed yet, I guess Mean Moms will be waiting for them on Netflix when they do.
