Why I Will See Every Film Ellen Page Is In From Now On, Forever

Timothy Carsons writes,

I didn't think you deserved your Oscar nomination, Ellen Page. I thought Juno was an incredibly overhyped and overrated movie. But, after watching the speech below, I will attend any film you're in – big or small. I will gladly pour money into the Hollywood machine to further your career. You don't need a golden statue to be great, Ellen Page. You already are.

It's already become old news that Ellen Page (aka Kitty Pryde) came out on Valentine's Day, during an incredibly well-written and delivered speech at a Human Rights Campaign conference. About halfway through Page proclaimed, "I'm gay," not proudly but nervously, evident by the way her right hand fluttered about while her left arm was glued to her side. Her deteriorating confidence, and near breakdown at the end of her speech, made her words all the more genuine. This wasn't some Oscar acceptance speech where the actor or actress thanks every person they've ever met in an attempt to not seem self-satisfying or indulgent. No, Ellen Page revealed herself with a purpose: to honor the people sitting in the audience watching her, people who dedicate their lives to helping those in need. Those are the kind of people, in my opinion, whom deserve to make millions upon millions of dollars for their efforts and receive standing ovations. Ellen Page was acutely aware of that fact, which made her speech all the more special.

Ellen, I'd like to address you directly: Thank you. Thank you for your courage. Thank you for your honesty. Some people are watching your speech and thinking, "Well, duh" or "So what?" Some even say, "Hey guess what? I'm straight, why don't I get a headline on CNN?" But, I get it. I understand how hard it must have been to do what you did. Much love, Ellen Page. You're an inspiration, and have done the X-Men proud.

P.S. I don't think you're a bad actress. I think you're quite talented, actually. I just liked Hard Candy more than Juno.
