College Newspaper Reports One Of Their Students Has Landed A Star Wars: Episode VII Role

This is a new one. I can't imagine a local college newspaper has any reason to lie, but the details on this are sketchy to say the least.

Jedi News dug up a report in The Hillsdale Collegian that student Joseph Craig has landed a role in Star Wars: Episode VII following a meeting with casting directors at one of the many opening auditions that have been taking place over the past couple of weeks.

Since it's been picked up by the blogosphere, the original Hillside Collegian website has probably been bombarded and is currently inaccessible, but here's an excerpt Jedi News managed to grab before it went down:

Craig is not allowed to release any information about his part or any information about the movie. His casting director, Maryellen Aviano of Buena Vista Home Entertainment, strictly warned him not to release anything about his role.

"They didn't tell me too much about my role, and the script won't be released until the spring. It's all pretty hush-hush," Craig said.

Meanwhile, Slashfilm managed to snag a different excerpt, and this is the part I'm finding sketchy. According to Craig:

A few individuals were brought to a table and shook hands with the casting team. If the team liked one of the candidates, they would be brought back into a room and told to read lines. From this group, the casting team decided who would be given the part.

One same day callback and boom, you're in Star Wars? Not even meeting JJ Abrams first? Sounds a little too easy. Unless, of course, it's a very small bit part (and there's likely to be dozens of those). So I guess on that front it's possible. I sincerely doubt he will be playing "Thomas" though.
