I remember the fuss that surrounded V.C. Andrews’ Flowers in the Attic after its original publication in the late 70s, and how much prurient attention there was surrounding the 1980s film version – which then disappointingly pulled a lot of punches.
This new TV retelling is promising to not water down the original book’s more controversial elements. It seems like a glorious melodrama, really, and if there’s enough pace to this telling, it could prove to be a great bit of small screen junk food.
If that’s a hit, Lifetime could follow through and adapt the remaining Dollanganger novels Petals on the Wind, If There Be Thorns, Seeds of Yesterday, and Garden of Shadows.
