Bringing Back The Zombies To Walking Dead #116

imageThere's a common trick in popular entertainment. Taking the popular thing off the table. Relegating it. Putting the focus on something else for a while. The fans start to notice, get annoyed and start demanding its return. And demanding. And demanding. And then, after a perfectly judged amount of time you bring it back and everyone goes wild.

It's a tricky thing to judge, you want it to build it hype, but not so much that people get turned off you ever bringing it back and give up. But it also lets you develop other aspects of the story without the distraction of the big tentpole, which may also pay off in time and faster a more diverse fanbase in terms of interest.

And comics is full of this. Stephanie Brown and the New 52. Jean Grey and the X-Men. And Walking Dead and the zombies.

While in the TV show, the zombies still remain a constant and current threat (and now seem to be embodying the idea of the Red Menace, the hidden traitors within), in the comics, they have had a back seat for a while. The more pressing concern has been the humans and, right now, Negan and his team. And that is where All Out War looked like it was heading.

Until tomorrow's issue when Walking Dead #116 brings back the zombies as a major shaping force in the comic book. As a military tactic.

So for all those who have been missing out on zombie attacks, it's time to come back.
