A Super Serious Behind The Scenes Look At The Making Of Bad Grandpa
I don't know what it is, maybe the unexpected intersection of tones, but this Vice video from the set of Johnny Knoxville's raunchy prank movie Bad Grandpa is completely fascinating.
For anyone under the misapprehension that a movie like this must not be like other movies, and must just be crazy hijinks constantly, even behind the scenes, this firmly debunks that. This is a professional movie set and everyone's much more concerned with the technical aspects of where to place the camera and whether jokes work tonally than pranking each other and having fun.
It's especially disconcerting to see Knoxville studiously preparing notes before scenes, worrying about whether a prank is too out there and berating himself when a joke doesn't quite land.
But hey, if you're looking for guys hitting each other in the nuts, don't worry, there's a couple of those moments too.
